Motion · S5M-15561 · 23 Jan 2019
Closure of Santander Alloa Branch
The motion
That the Parliament expresses disappointment regarding the reported decision by Santander to close its branch in Alloa in June 2019; notes that the announcement comes just weeks after the loss of the RBS branch in the town; deplores the loss of banking services in Alloa and across Clackmannanshire, given the closure of several other bank branches in the area over recent years; is concerned about the fate of staff at the branch, who it understands face an uncertain future as a result of the announcement, and calls for action to protect banking services from the UK Government, which has regulatory and legislative competence over banking and which it believes must act in the interests of the customers and businesses who face more upheaval as a result of this latest proposed bank closure.
