Macrae of Livingston Announces Further Job Losses
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges what it sees as the devastating and disappointing news that 50 jobs in Livingston are at risk at the Macrae factory, which is owned by Young’s Seafood; believes that, while the company has spoken of its long-term commitment to the area, citing no loss of business and attributing its actions to improved productivity as a result of investment in new machinery, this news remains deeply regrettable and will be of absolutely no comfort to the 50 employees and their families; considers that it is imperative that all the proper processes are followed, and that the respective trade union and employee representatives are fully involved over the coming days and weeks, and asks the Scottish Government to ensure that it is fully engaged with the company and do everything possible to support the workforce at this difficult time.
