The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the findings of a study that has ranked Edinburgh as the UK city with the best prospects for economic growth in 2019; notes that the study, The Vitality Index, is a report compiled by the national property consultant, Lambert Smith Hampton; understands that the report provides a comprehensive assessment of the health of the UK’s towns and cities; recognises that this is the first time that a Scottish city has achieved first place and that it reflects the significant and increasing demand for residential and commercial property in the city, as well as a strong forecast for an increase in jobs; understands that the study takes into account education, entrepreneurialism, affluence, productivity, growth and environmental factors, and acknowledges that the publishers of the report note that the city’s wider growth is contingent on access to a substantial and diverse workforce to underpin business success, and that there is a great deal of uncertainty due to Brexit.
