GMB Secures Collective Agreement with Hermes to Delivering a Voice for its Workers
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the GMB on securing a collective agreement with Hermes, which will deliver a voice for Hermes workers; understands that the agreement provides holiday pay, guaranteed pay for workers who wish to switch to new contracts and union recognition for employees; notes that the collective agreement is the result of a long campaign by Hermes workers and the GMB; understands that the agreement with Hermes is the first of its kind covering self-employed workers in the so called gig economy, and hopes that what it considers this groundbreaking agreement will encourage employers to ensure that their self-employed workers are given the same rights, and that the role of trade unions in the workplace is valued.
