Mental Health in the Hospitality Industry

The motion

That the Parliament notes the results of the survey carried out by the Caterer magazine on mental health in the hospitality industry; notes that it revealed significant problems within the sector, with 59% of respondents having a mental health problem and 71% saying that they had experienced it at some point, and identified a lack of resources and support to help deal with it; understands that, while the hospitality industry does not necessarily cause mental health issues, certain characteristics such as shift patterns and high pressure environments can have an adverse impact or worsen existing issues, and welcomes the launch of the new charity, Hospitality Health, which will help staff and students within the hospitality sector with addiction issues and poor mental health through initiatives such as its Resilience Course to help those working in hospitality to build strategies for bouncing back through tough times, and its Employee Assistance Programme, which will help organisations to support their staff.
