Inverclyde Ceilidh Band Tours Pakistan
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that the Inverclyde ceilidh band, Reely Jiggered, featuring the sisters, Alison and Fiona McNeil, and their cousin, Scott McLean, spent a week visiting and performing in the Pakistani cities of Lahore, Sialkot and the capital, Islamabad; understands that this was the second year in a row that the band was invited to Pakistan by the British High Commissioner, primarily to play a fundraising Burns supper on 26 January 2019, with proceeds going to a deaf school in Karachi; notes that the band was also invited to perform at schools, handed out Scottish Government-backed university scholarships for underprivileged girls, visited a factory that manufactures instruments, including bagpipes, and was interviewed live on national TV; believes that trips such as this help enhance links between Scotland and Pakistan and promote Scottish culture overseas, and wishes the band all the best for the future.
