Texas Instruments Saved from Closure

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Texas Instruments (TI) manufacturing facility in Greenock has been saved from closure; understands that a reported £65 million rescue deal has been signed with the American firm, Diodes Incorporated, which includes a £15 million support package from the Scottish Government and Inverclyde Council; further understands that this will prevent the loss of 300 jobs at the semiconductor site; recognises that this announcement comes three years after TI revealed its plans to leave Inverclyde; believes that this fantastic result is largely down to the determination of the TI Taskforce, the Scottish Government and all its agencies, TI itself and Diodes Incorporated; congratulates everyone involved on their efforts in securing this deal and the significant investment that it will bring to Inverclyde, as well as maintaining high-skilled and high-value local employment; commends the TI employees who have continued to deliver high-quality products despite the job uncertainty that they faced, and wishes Diodes Incorporated every success with its new venture in the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency.
