Legendary Music Store Fopp Byres Road
The motion
That the Parliament notes with regret the decision by the new owners, Sunrise Records, to close the Fopp Byres Road branch in Glasgow, which was part of the HMV company; understands that Fopp began as a one-man stall in De Courcy's Arcade in 1981, expanding to over 100 stores across the UK; believes that Fopp Byres Road was one of eight remaining stores boasting a loyal customer following with extremely knowledgeable staff, and understands that the decision to close the Byres Road branch has been met with sadness by those who have been loyal customers, including the local student population, and members of the music industry, with many commenting that the Fopp Byres Road closure is the end of an era.
