Access to Spinraza for People with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Types 2 and 3
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that Spinraza, the first treatment for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), could be made available on the NHS in Scotland for children and adults with SMA Types 2 and 3 from April 2019; acknowledges that this follows the availability of Spinraza on the NHS for people with Type 1 SMA from May 2018; recognises the role of patient representatives, Muscular Dystrophy UK and SMA UK, highlighting the impact of SMA and the importance of access to Spinraza, and acknowledges the collaboration and flexibility of the Scottish Medicines Consortium and Biogen in the new ultra-orphan appraisal process.
