Macsween of Edinburgh's Export Success
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the haggis producer, Macsween of Edinburgh, on a bumper sales month in January 2019, including £25,000 worth of exports to Canada; understands that the month saw the Loanhead-based company record a 30% increase in sales, with forecasted turnover figures of £1.7 million; notes that it employs 60 people and exports a range of products across the world, including to Singapore, Dubai, France, Germany and the United States; recognises that it made history in 2017 by becoming the first business to export haggis to Canada since 1971, having created a new recipe that met that county's food safety regulations and giving it access to a market of 4.7 million Canadians of Scottish heritage, and believes that this highlights the success of the UK food and drink sector, which is backed by officials at both the UK and Scottish Government level, working together.
