Renfrewshire Council, Closing the Attainment Gap
The motion
That the Parliament praises Renfrewshire Council on the news that it is the first local authority to be rated “excellent” by Education Scotland in making progress in improving learning and closing the attainment gap; thanks its teachers and school staff for their hard work and commitment to delivering high quality learning and teaching; recognises that several significant year-on-year improvements were noted, with family study sessions, a school activities fund and a literacy scheme among the initiatives highlighted; notes that the inspectors recorded that this support, which has been extended across all of the council's schools, as being “very successful”; believes that this demonstrates a very clear commitment by Renfrewshire Council to raise attainment for all; highlights what it sees as the impact that Attainment Challenge funding has had in improving these outcomes, and believes that, by taking a collective approach, the council has been able to achieve outstanding results.
