The motion

That the Parliament commends the pupils and staff of the International School of Aberdeen for hosting a tea party for older people to help tackle social isolation; understands that the school teamed up with the charity, Contact the Elderly, which provided a 20-strong group to join the tea party; notes that pupils, aged 15 to 18, baked scones and learned about hosting an afternoon tea party in order to accommodate the unique event; acknowledges that pupils from Scotland, France, Germany, the United States, Columbia, Brazil, India and Nigeria all played a part in organising and hosting the event, which took place in the school’s Pitfodels House premises; considers that social isolation and loneliness can have a significant impact on a person’s physical and mental wellbeing, and thanks the school and Contact the Elderly for helping to tackle this important issue.
