Fairtrade Fortnight Finds its Way to Orkney for its 25th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament notes Orkney is to host a number of events during Fairtrade Fortnight 2019, which also marks the 25th anniversary of Fairtrade International; notes that the Orkney events will include a county-wide baking competition using fairly-traded cocoa; recognises that Orkney’s Fairtrade Zone status confirms that it is a place where the interests of the producer, both locally and globally, are valued highly; considers that promoting such produce improves the living standards of people worldwide and reduces global inequality; believes that Fairtrade International helps to improve friendship and cultural understanding across borders; welcomes the visit to Orkney this year of two Palestinian producers; congratulates the people of Orkney on enthusiastically adopting this cause; believes that this is illustrated by the high uptake and sales of fair trade products, and wishes everyone involved with this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight the best.
