The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement of the inaugural Women's Tour of Scotland, which was launched by the Scottish World, Olympic and Commonwealth champion, Katie Archibald on 6 March 2019; understands that the cycling event will take place over three stages from 9 to 11 August and will visit a number of locations, including the Trossachs, Perth and Fife; believes that up to 20 of the world's leading elite teams will take part and that, alongside the professional race, each start and finish will feature family activation zones for fans, spectators, residents, visitors and families to get involved in and be encouraged to take up cycling; welcomes the news that the prize money will be matched with an equivalent men's event and that the tour organisers plan to make it the world's first climate-positive sports event by 2020; believes that promoting women's cycling in an international tour will inspire more women and girls across Scotland to start cycling, and wishes all of the organisers, participants and spectators a successful event.
