Support in Mind Scotland Wins GSK IMPACT Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the mental health charity, Support in Mind Scotland, on being one of 10 organisations that have won a UK-wide GSK IMPACT Award; notes that the GSK IMPACT Awards is a programme that recognises and rewards small- and medium-sized charities that are doing excellent work to improve people’s health and wellbeing in communities across the UK; understands that the award has been won as a result of Support in Mind Scotland’s work helping people in isolated rural communities who are living with mental health conditions, where it can be particularly difficult to access much-needed support; notes the use of research that informs Support in Mind Scotland's work and policy in Scotland; believes that the charity runs one-to-one, group and peer support, money and employment advice, rural outreach and special services for young people experiencing isolation offering information and advice, informal drop-in sessions, activities, crisis support and counselling for people with mental ill-health and their families and friends; recognises that the charity’s work with the Scottish Government-supported Distress Brief Intervention Project and National Rural Mental Health Forum were highlighted by the judges; notes that the charity employs around 110 people who support up 1,500 people with poor mental health every week in Scotland from Golspie to Stranraer, and wishes the charity well in the May 2019 finals of the GSK IMPACT Awards.
