Poor Care Provision for Mary Ednie
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern what it sees as the poor care provision that is being provided to Mary Ednie, who is from Kelty and has MS, by the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership (FHSCP), which has placed her in a care home more than 20 miles from her residence since 23 December 2018; acknowledges that this followed the withdrawal of her care package by the private company that was contracted to deliver it; understands that Mary is isolated from her family and friends because of a lack of public transport to the home; believes that the best option is for her to be supported in her own home; but understands with concern that FHSCP has failed to put such a package in place; considers that the care home provides excellent care for the majority of its residents, most of whom are older or frail; but believes that, as Mary is only 56, it is not suitable for someone of her age and cannot therefore meet her social needs; understands that Mary has said that this is having a detrimental effect on her physical and emotional health; believes that there is a crisis in the structure and funding of health and social care provision; considers that this must be addressed so that Mary, and others in similar situations, can receive the care and the support that they need in their own homes, and calls on FHSCP to bring to an end the months that Mary has been living in the care home by prioritising a package that will allow her to live in her own home and among her own community.
