Do Not End Mesh Suspension in Scotland

That the Parliament is deeply concerned at reports of transvaginal mesh implants being reintroduced in NHS England following the lifting of the suspension of the medical devices; understands that NICE, the health watchdog, stated that the products, which were used to treat various health conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence, could be reintroduced in England under specific conditions; considers that this short-sighted plan is one that ignores the experiences of women who have suffered greatly following mesh surgery, which it believes has caused life-changing injury and disability in too many cases; recognises that, although NHS England is not obliged to enforce NICE recommendations, it is expected to consider them while planning treatment and care, and calls for the ban on what it considers these dangerous devices to be maintained in Scotland.
