West Lothian College's STEM Olympics
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates West Lothian College on the launch of its STEM Olympics, which will run over the next four years and will aim to enable every primary school in the area to participate in heats that will be hosted by the secondary schools that they feed into, with the top teams from each heat taking part in an annual final hosted by the college; notes that 76 pupils in 19 teams from the schools that feed into Linlithgow, Armadale and St Kentigern’s academies competed in the 2019 regional heats on 1 April, taking part in a variety of challenges, including light and colour in photography, a Lego robot challenge, battery building and river crossing; acknowledges that the competition has been made possible thanks to a generous donation from the family of the late Sir Tam Dalyell, to commemorate his lifelong passion for science, and commends the college's staff and students, the area's teachers and employees from companies, including Sky, Entrotec and Express Micro Science, for supporting the initiative.
