Orkney Drama Success

Lodged by Liam McArthur (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 10 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Stromness Drama Club, the St Andrews Drama Club and the Palace Players, which are all from Orkney, on their success at the recent northern divisional final of the Scottish Community Drama Association's (SCDA) one-act play competition, which saw the best clubs from across the north perform at Brechin City Hall; acknowledges that the Stromness club will now be returning to the national finals for the second year in a row with its play, Shakers; recognises that the St Andrews club, which comes from a community of under 500 people, won the Best Moment of Theatre and Best Performance awards, and that the Palace Players won the award for stage presentation; applauds the SCDA on what it sees as its exceptional work in supporting community drama across the country, and hopes that Graham Garson and the Stromness club can go one better in 2019 and win the national final, which will be held at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy on 25 April.
