Tougher Sentencing for Animal Cruelty in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges what it sees as the importance of increasing the maximum available penalties for animal cruelty offences in Scotland; believes that this should include increasing the maximum penalty for the worst cases to five years imprisonment; acknowledges Battersea dogs and cats home's continued campaign on this; understands that this has attracted strong cross-party and public support; believes that the current consultation in Scotland is a positive step toward tackling this issue, and supports collaboration on the development of legislation that will aim to ensure that Scotland’s animals are spared from all cases of abuse.
