Dementia-friendly Walks at Wishaw Care Home
The motion
That the Parliament commends Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw on its new dementia-friendly walking initiative for residents; notes that the walks are also open to local people in an effort to keep the home’s residents part of the community; understands that the walks take a familiar route around the town, which can bring back memories for many of the residents; recognises that recent research has shown that physical exercise for people with dementia or similar illnesses can help relieve stress and boredom; understands that the care home worked in partnership with Paths for All to get the walks started and that each walk is led by a trained Walk Leader, and wishes Beechwood Care Home continued success with the initiative.
