North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Bands Drum Up Support in New York

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates 52 young people from North Lanarkshire Schools’ Pipe Bands, who participated in Tartan Week celebrations in New York City; notes that the Novice and Juvenile bands consist of pipers and drummers between the ages of 11 and 18 from across North Lanarkshire; recognises that the pipers and drummers performed in the Tartan Day Parade on New York City’s Sixth Avenue on 6 April 2019 in front of 30,000 people, a global television audience and the Grand Marshal of the parade, Sir Billy Connelly; understands that the pipers and drummers also engaged in an impromptu performance of Scotland The Brave in Grand Central Station, with the video footage being viewed by two million people from all over the world; further understands that North Lanarkshire Schools’ Pipe Bands are the present Scottish, British and European champions, and are former world champions;, and congratulates all the young people involved, their tutors and instructors, as well as the volunteers, sponsors, parents, supporters, the Head of Music Instruction, Jim Park, Pipe Major Ross Cowan and all at North Lanarkshire Council for doing Scotland proud at Tartan Week.
