The motion

That the Parliament supports World Parkinson’s Day, which is being held on 11 April 2019; celebrates that Parkinson’s support groups and volunteers across the country will be spending the day raising awareness of the illness and providing support to both those with the condition and their friends and families; understands that plans to raise awareness include lighting up over 80 Scottish landmarks in Parkinson’s UK signature blue as well as starting #ParkinsonsIs, an ongoing campaign created where people with Parkinson’s and their families explain the brutal impact of the condition on their day to day life; notes that there are over 12,000 people living with Parkinson’s in Scotland; congratulates Parkinson’s UK on its groundbreaking work in trying to find a cure for the disease and for all the guidance and support that it offers to people across Scotland and the UK with the condition; particularly congratulates the Parkinson’s Support Group in Helensburgh, which will, on the day, be volunteering its services and providing information to the local community at Tesco in Helensburgh; encourages others to take part in World Parkinson’s Day, and hopes that the day will inspire others to learn more about the disease in order to better support people with the condition in Scotland.
