The Garngad’s Lisbon Lion, Stevie Chalmers

Lodged by Bob Doris (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 18 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes with sadness the death of Celtic legend and Garngad/Royston boy, Stevie Chalmers; acknowledges that Stevie’s death comes just days after that of his fellow Lisbon Lion, Billy McNeil; acknowledges the incredible achievement of that Celtic team in 1967 in becoming the first from the British Isles to win the European Cup; commends residents who have suggested that one way of marking Stevie’s sporting achievements and legacy in the community would be to install a commemorative plaque at an appropriate location; encourages Celtic and Glasgow City Council to consider such a step, and believes that this would be a fitting memorial to a man from the Garngad who will continue to inspire people from across the community to participate in sport.
