Scotland Consumer Insight Report 2019
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the Which?Scotland Consumer Insight Report 2019, which provides a valuable insights into consumer trends, in particular consumer opinion on banking in Scotland; understands that consumer trust in banking in Scotland has fallen to 39%, lower than the rest of the UK; notes with concern that Scotland has lost one third of its banks and ATMs since 2010; understands that twelve banks and building societies have closed across the communities of Clackmannanshire, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane since 2015, and that Clackmannanshire is now the only mainland local authority without a Clydesdale and RBS bank branch; recognises the profound impact that the closure of banking services has on communities across Scotland; notes the UK Government’s legislative and regulatory responsibility for banking and financial services; considers what it sees as its continued inaction to be completely unacceptable, and urges the UK Government to take action to reverse local bank closures.
