Pickaquoy Centre Hits 20 Years

That the Parliament congratulates the staff and trustees of the Pickaquoy Leisure Centre in Kirkwall, which is affectionately known across Orkney as "the Picky", on it reaching the milestone of its 20th anniversary; notes that the Picky was opened on 16 April 1999 by HRH The Princess Royal and that the birthday celebrations included an open day offering free and discounted activities and events, which was attended by around 2,500 people, which is around 11% of the population of Orkney; believes that this demonstrates the popularity of a facility that has played an important role in the community over the last two decades; thanks all who have been involved with it over the years for their hard work and commitment; believes that the Picky will play a pivotal role when Orkney hosts the International Island Games in 2023, and looks forward to the further development of the Picky over the next 20 years and beyond.
