Greenock Wanderers' Women Make History as 2019 National Women’s Bowl Winners
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Greenock Wanderers’ women on being crowned the National Women’s Bowl champions for 2019 at BT Murrayfield on Silver Saturday, 27 April 2019; understands that the Greenock side romped to victory by scoring 12 tries to win 72-12 against Livingston Women; believes that this is the first time that a Greenock Wanderers team has ever won a national final in its 146-year history, and is the second time the women have reached Silver Saturday since forming in 2014 as they were BT Women’s National Plate Finalists in 2018; notes that Greenock Wanderers’ men’s side were National Men’s Shield Finalists this year, but lost 57-35 in extra time after drawing 35-35 with Berwick after 80 minutes; recognises the tremendous achievement of having two senior sides at Silver Saturday, but notes that the men’s season is not over yet as they look to win the league and gain promotion to the National League when they take on Annan at Fort Matilda on 4 May; commends the hard work and dedication of all the players and coaching staff who have helped the two sides to success; wishes the men all the best in their forthcoming final, and also sends its best wishes to the women in the Tennent’s Women’s West 1 league, which commences in August.
