Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey Results

That the Parliament acknowledges the results of the Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey for 2018; understands that the survey, commissioned by Macmillan Cancer Support and the Scottish Government, asked people with cancer to comment on their diagnosis, treatment and support; notes that 95% of people stated that their experience of care was good, 86% were given a clinical nurse specialist who would support them through their treatment, and 97% said that doctors treated them with dignity and respect; further notes, however, that although the survey suggests that NHS cancer care is good, patients are not receiving adequate emotional, practical and financial support; acknowledges that, of those who wanted it, 40% were not offered benefits advice and only 30% of people received a care plan; believes that cancer can affect all aspects of life, and considers that all patients should be provided with a specialised care plan so that everyone experiencing cancer receives the help and support that they deserve.
