HIV Scotland's Campaign to End Tattoo Discrimination
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the campaign by HIV Scotland to end discrimination for people living with and affected by HIV wherever they face it; understands with concern that there have been a number of cases where people living with HIV have been refused service by licensed tattoo studios in Scotland because of their status; believes that it is a scientifically-based fact that standard infection control procedures negate any risk of HIV transmission through tattooing; understands that HIV is still the most stigmatised health condition and that barriers to services perpetuate such stigma, which often leads to shame, isolation and embarrassment for people living with the condition; considers that education and information are key tools to eliminating stigma, and commits to working with local authorities to ensure that no licensed premise continue to discriminate against people living with HIV.
