Make Yourself Heard Campaign

That the Parliament helps to raise awareness of what to do when people call 999 but are too afraid to speak out loud; understands that around 5,000 of the 20,000 silent 999 calls made daily are put through to an automated system, called Silent Solutions, which helps callers, such as domestic abuse victims, who are unable to speak to an operator; notes that when a person has not been able to signal that their call is an emergency by coughing after dialling 999, they will be put through to the operator; understands that if a person is in danger, they will be asked to dial 55; promotes the Make Yourself Heard Campaign, which has been launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, backed by a how-to guide, which is aimed at debunking the myth that a silent 999 call alone will automatically bring help; notes that campaign is being backed by the charities, Women's Aid and the National Police Chiefs' Council, and calls on all MSPs to help raise this with their constituents.
