Shetland Makes Lonely Planet Top 10
The motion
That the Parliament considers Shetland's inclusion in Lonely Planet's list of the 10 best travel destinations in Europe for 2019 thoroughly deserved; notes that Shetland was the only UK destination included; believes that the isles are a fantastic tourist destination boasting spectacular coastlines, wildlife, food and drink and heritage; considers that a visit to the isles should take in Up Helly Aa, celebrated every January, traditional music on show throughout the year, world famous Fair Isle knitting and unrivalled seafood while exploring the rich history and dramatic scenery on its doorstep; believes this coveted recognition by Lonely Planet to be testament to the hard work of all those involved in the tourism industry and who make Shetland such a welcoming place to visit; looks forward to another busy tourist season, and hopes that more visitors will be encouraged to venture north in the future.
