World Hunger Day 2019
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the ninth annual World Hunger Day on 28 May 2019; acknowledges that the theme of this year’s event is sustainability; notes that, according to the World Hunger Project, 821 million people worldwide do not have enough to eat, and that 60% of the world’s hungry are women; acknowledges the right of people in all countries to access adequate and sustainable food; recognises that, in many countries, the right to food is recognised but not legally enforceable; understands that food insecurity is rising in Scotland with the number of food parcels handed out by the Trussell Trust increasing by 23% in 2018-19, and believes that this highlights the need for a statutory right to food.
