Motion · S5M-17409 · 23 May 2019
Dr John MacInnes (Iain MacAonghuis)
The motion
That the Parliament notes with sadness the passing of Dr John MacInnes (Iain MacAonghuis); understands that Dr MacInnes was considered the leading scholar of the Gaelic language; notes that he had spent his life studying and championing Gaelic history, folklore, music and spoken word after studying Old English and Old Norse at the University of Edinburgh and going on to work in its School of Scottish Studies for more than 30 years before retiring in 1993; believes that, through his work, Dr MacInnes has immeasurably strengthened the Gaelic language in Scotland, and extends its sincere sympathy to his family and friends.
