Women's Access to Healthcare Should not be Conditional

That the Parliament notes the initiative aimed at women who have had children taken into care that is launching in Dundee, which will offer them counselling and support provided that they commit to using long-term birth control; believes that the contraception sanctioned by the scheme includes the implant, injections or coil, all of which are long lasting but reversible; understands that initiative has been welcomed by Dundee City Council, will receive funding from the Scottish Government and will be run by Pause; acknowledges however the reported concerns of Professor Brid Featherstone that this is an example of conditional welfare; agrees that access to mental health services and substance misuse services should not be conditional on birth control; notes the article by the Sunday National columnist, Caitlin Logan, which argued that the "scheme runs risk of being family cap by another name", and shares the concerns expressed by Alys Munford of Engender that women are being required to use birth control to access support that they need.
