Sean Cursiter Crowned Britain’s Fittest Farmer
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Orkney sheep and beef farmer, Sean Cursiter, on being crowned Britain’s Fittest Farmer 2019; understands that Sean secured the men’s title and a prize of £500, while Fiona Penfold, a beef producer from Somerset, was victorious from the shortlist of women candidates; notes that this is the first such competition, run by Farmers Weekly, promoting both the physical and mental health of those working in the farming sector across the UK; recognises the particular challenges for those farming in island areas, with a short number of daylight hours in winter and a sparse population, increasing the risk of rural isolation; commends Sean’s approach of setting personal goals and making a real effort to be social and active, including playing rugby for Orkney, and helping to tackle stress and rural isolation; congratulates Farmers Weekly on an initiative, which encourages more discussion and awareness about the importance of, and connection between, good mental and physical health, and looks forward to the awards going from strength to strength in future.
