St John’s Parish Church, Gourock
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates St John’s Parish Church in Gourock on its project, Our Church History Through Stained Glass, being awarded £240,000 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland; recognises that the project aims to engage young people and the wider community with the church’s heritage and that this funding will be used to create a stained glass window designed by schoolchildren from the area to commemorate the church’s 175th anniversary, help restore its iconic tower and repair its bell, which has not been heard since December 2018; appreciates the crucial role that St John's has played in Gourock over the years, with it being interwoven with the history and identity of the town; encourages people to get involved in the project where possible, and wishes St John’s all the best for the future.
