Kirkwall Lifeboat Station Open Day

Lodged by Liam McArthur (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 9 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Kirkwall Lifeboat Station on organising and running a successful open day on 25 May 2019; notes that there was a very good turnout and that the visitors to the lifeboat and station were treated to displays from the coastguard and fire service; commends the volunteers for putting on fundraising activities and providing catering; understands that shops in Kirkwall put up RNLI window displays prior to the day and that St Magnus Cathedral was lit up in yellow in support; believes that this underscores the enduring support for a service that is a genuine lifesaver in Orkney, as well as island and coastal communities around the country; thanks all who volunteer their time and commitment to the RNLI for the selfless bravery that they demonstrate all year round, and believes that the day raised important funds for RNLI and further public awareness about the work that the organisation does in keeping people safe.
