Lodged by Liam McArthur (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 12 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the NSPCC’s Speak Out. Stay Safe schools service initiative on delivering its programme in every primary school in Orkney; understands that the programme aims to help children to recognise all forms of abuse and signs of abuse, as well as how to protect themselves against harmful behaviour and how to find help and support; recognises that, on average, at least two children per primary school class in Scotland will experience abuse or neglect; notes that the NSPCC’s campaign has reached hundreds of thousands of pupils across the country since it started in 2011; understands that the volunteers use interactive and discursive group exercises to help children learn how to stay safe; hopes that the work of NSPCC and others will help contribute to a long-term and lasting reduction in all forms of child abuse and neglect, and looks forward to more primary schools across Scotland being able to access this important programme.
