OVO Energy Tour of Britain 2019
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the announcement of the details of the 1,250km route for the 2019 OVO Energy Tour of Britain; notes that the eight-day event will start on 7 September in George Square, Glasgow, and end in Manchester, with the Scottish Borders stage on 8 September starting and ending on the cobbles of Kelso; believes that the tour will be televised by ITV and broadcast to 170 countries; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of competitive cycling in Scotland and the wider UK; believes that British athletes have dominated the sport in recent years, including role models such as Sir Chris Hoy and Laura Kenny; considers that this is having a positive effect and has led to an increasing the number of people deciding to take up cycling for commuting or recreational purposes, and wishes the competitors and organisers all the best for the event.
