Whitehill Incinerator Planning Appeal Abandoned

That the Parliament welcomes the withdrawal of the planning appeal for a proposed incinerator at Whitehill; believes that communities have stood united and resolute against this incinerator since 2013; understands that residents in Whitehill, Burnbank, Hamilton, Bothwell, Uddingston and Blantyre will be hugely relieved by the news that the appeal has been abandoned; believes that no community should ever again face a situation where the Scottish Ministers reportedly ignore their own guidelines on incinerators and give developers the go ahead against the wishes of the people; congratulates all of the community groups involved in campaigning against the proposal, including the Hamilton Energy Recovery Action Group, the Bothwell Road Action Group, the Whitehill Neighbourhood Management Board and Bothwell, Blantyre, Uddingston, Cambuslang and Halfway community councils; appreciates the ongoing coverage of the campaign in the Hamilton Advertiser and the Blantyre Telegraph and how this helped to raise public awareness; pays tribute to the late Councillor Lynn Adams, the former SNP member for Hamilton North and East, and recognises her tireless work supporting the community during the early years of the campaign, alongside other councillors and parliamentarians from various parties, and calls on the developer to recognise the wishes of the local community and drop this proposal once and for all.
