No Blacklisting Firms on Renfrewshire Council Contracts
The motion
That the Parliament understands that Renfrewshire Council has awarded a contract of works at Paisley Town Hall to Kier Construction Ltd, a firm implicated in the blacklisting of construction workers; notes that, under a Labour administration, the council adopted the Construction Charter, which expressly prohibited giving contracts to such firms, which it considers the current SNP administration has now ignored; understands that the charter specifies any company awarded a contract by the council must "be able to certify that they have not engaged in the practice of blacklisting workers for any reason"; calls on the Scottish Government to denounce this decision and ensure that Kier Construction Ltd proves that any and all blacklisting activities have ceased and can never happen again, and further calls on councils across Scotland, including in the Lothian region, to adhere to the principles of the Construction Charter.
