Bo’ness Hippodrome Wins Best Cinema Experience Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Bo’ness Hippodrome on winning the Best Cinema Experience award, as voted for by the public, at the Scottish Hospitality Awards, which were held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on 21 May 2019; notes that the cinema, which is run by the Falkirk Community Trust, is this year celebrating the 10th anniversary of its reopening; understands that it recently held its most successful Hippfest, which is Scotland’s only silent film festival; believes that, under the directorship of Alison Strauss, this has become more popular over the years, welcoming visitors from all over the world; notes what it sees as the importance of Scotland’s links with film and filmmaking, which go as far back as the 1880s, with the invention of the 35mm film by William Kennedy Dickson, which is still a standard format used in cinema and photography today; acknowledges the modern day blockbuster movies and television series that are now filmed in Scotland, many with Scottish cast and crew; calls on the Scottish Government to continue working to harness the country's potential as the perfect setting for films and TV series; welcomes this award for the Hippodrome and all of its staff, and wishes them, and the cinema, continued success.
