Colin MacLeod Becomes First Man to Swim Solo Across the Minch

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the endurance swimmer, Colin MacLeod, on becoming the first man to swim solo across the Minch; understands that the Big Minch Channel between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland is approximately 24 nautical miles in length; notes that Colin was able to swim this in 21 hours, setting off from Gairloch just after 4am on 10 June 2019, and arriving in Lemreway, South Lochs, just after 1am on 11 June, having swum 33 miles; recognises that Colin was supported by the support boat, the Endeavour, skippered by Donald "DK" MacDonald, with son Joseph Macleod on board in charge of nutrition, and kayakers Robert Emmott, Brian Wilson and his daughter, Nelly, monitoring Colin’s condition in the water; commends Colin for surpassing his crowdfunding target of £5,000 for Cancer Research UK, with paper sponsorship and Gift Aid top-ups adding up to more than £1,000 of further donations, and wishes him continued success in future swimming challenges.
