Scottish Awards for New Music 2019

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates New Music Scotland on holding the third annual Scottish Awards for New Music, which took place on 13 May 2019; understands that the awards highlight the country’s contemporary music scene and showcase the innovative, experimental and groundbreaking work taking place in Scotland; recognises that awards were given in 11 categories, including Small and Large-scale New Works, Contribution to New Music, Community/Education, Innovation in New Traditional Music, Creative Programming, and Collaboration; notes that the event, attended by performers, creators, composers, leaders and supporters of the vibrant music scene in Scotland, had live performances, supported by the Musicians’ Union, from the winning performer, Garth Knox, and a piece from the winning composer, Pippa Murphy, performed by Kate Halsall; further notes that the awards are supported by Creative Scotland, PRS for Music, Steinberg, EVM Signs, the Good Spirits Co, the Musicians' Union and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; acknowledges that over 200 nominations were submitted by artists, audience members and the general public, highlighting the extent of new music activity in Scotland, and congratulates all the organisers, award winners and nominees, whose work is testament to the range and diversity of new music being produced, programmed and performed across the country.
