RPS Scotland Report on Pharmacy Care Home Services

That the Parliament notes that there are over 32,000 older care home residents in Scotland, a significant number of whom, it understands, have increasingly complex care needs; believes therefore that it is crucial that they receive equity of access to community NHS pharmacy care; welcomes the report by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Scotland, Putting residents at the centre of pharmacy care home services, which sets out a vision for improving care; considers that input from pharmacy teams results in improved palliative care, fewer falls, fewer unplanned admissions to hospital, improved appetite and more socially active residents, and believes that the integrated joint boards should adequately plan and resource pharmacy services and ensure that these are led by pharmacists working with multi-disciplinary teams, so that all residents receive the highest standard of pharmaceutical care.
