Reduction in Suicide Rates
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the reported 19% decrease in suicide rates in Scotland between 2004-08 and 2014-18; recognises what it sees as the impact that mental health and suicide prevention groups are having across communities in providing support to many individuals and families, raising public awareness and striving to improve crisis support services for at-risk groups; notes the establishment of the National Suicide Prevention Leadership Group; welcomes the call for NHS boards to include mental health and suicide prevention training within their workforce plans; notes the promotion of a new learning and awareness raising tool for all local authority staff; supports the aim of reaching out to the hard to reach group of males aged 35 to 44, where the suicide rate is at its highest, and supports extending this training to players and staff at every Scottish football club, enabling more people to spot the signs of poor mental health.
