Taking Time to Talk Can Save Lives
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of Man Chat Aberdeen, which is a weekly meeting for men who are struggling with thoughts of suicide or have other mental health issues; recognises that this support group, which was established by the stand-up comedian, Wray Thomson, has already attracted more than 300 requests for help, and prevented a dad of two taking his own life; understands that this forum comes as new figures show more people across the north east died by suicide in 2018 compared with the previous year; acknowledges that suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45, and encourages everyone feeling overwhelmed or suicidal to reach out for help.
