Gothenburg Great Hosts Sue Ryder Fundraiser
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the success of the recent Gothenburg Greats’ themed dinner, organised by Sue Ryder at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen on 27 June 2019, which has raised £27,000 as part of a two-year fundraising drive to secure £3.9 million to expand the Sue Ryder Dee View Court facility in Aberdeen; understands that the facility provides 24 residents of all ages who have neurological conditions, including motor neurone disease, Huntingdon’s disease, multiple sclerosis and severe brain injuries, with specialist care and support; recognises that this expansion will allow 40 more residents to call the facility their home with the aim of having them moved in by the end of this year; notes the contribution of the Aberdeen FC and Scotland goalkeeper, Jim Leighton, in hosting the Gothenburg-themed dinner, which featured a question and answer session with him, Neil Simpson and John Hewitt from the European Cup Winners’ Cup winning team that beat Real Madrid in the final in Gothenburg in 1983, and wishes all involved the very best of success in reaching their fundraising target, which has already surpassed the £3 million mark.
