Dumfries and Galloway Radical Action on Climate Change
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Dumfries and Galloway Council on the action that it has taken to establish a radical 12-point plan, in light of the Scottish Government declaring a climate emergency, with increased steps to help mitigate future damage to Scotland's natural environment; understands that the principle aim of the plan is to reduce the local authority's carbon use and to achieve net-zero carbon status by 2025; understands that the council will work collaboratively with businesses, communities and other agencies to help tackle climate change and achieve this ambitious target; recognises that the council has appointed an elected member champion to oversee the progress of the plan, and welcomes that Councillor Dougie Campbell has been appointed to the post, and urges other local authorities across Scotland to follow suit and take similar action to help mitigate the impact of climate change, as it considers that it is only by acting together that meaningful change can be brought about to protect the environment everyone knows, loves and lives in.
