Freedom from Torture, Healing Neighbourhoods Project

The motion

That the Parliament commends Freedom from Torture’s (FfT) unique Healing Neighbourhoods project, which supports and empowers torture survivors as equal and active citizens; notes the parliamentary reception that took place on 26 June 2019 to mark the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture with a celebration of the achievements of torture survivors as active citizens of Scotland; understands that the Healing Neighbourhoods project has a progressive focus on rehabilitation, increasing capacity for torture survivors, integration within local communities and increasing access to community-based services; believes that FfT and the project provide and promote rehabilitation and integration, while reinforcing the message of an equal, fair and responsive Scotland where all citizens are empowered and are able to function as equal active citizens with pride and dignity; commends the service users, staff and volunteers of this vital project, and wishes them continued success.
